Welcome to MacGregor Teaching Garden!
The MacGregor Garden is an in-ground teaching garden located at 346 Lansdowne Ave. In the growing season this garden is a hive of activity, hosting community drop-ins, day camp programs, clubs, and classes from the neighbouring high school. Learning continues during cooler months through collaborations with after-school programs.
Our teaching garden program aims to spark a lifelong interest in nature and conservation. Through participation in hands-on garden activities, children will gain an understanding and appreciation of where their food comes from and the practical skills to start gardens of their own. The program provides the opportunity to learn about our own responsibility to the Earth, fostering an interest in environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Through our program, we hope to empower young growers to cultivate healthier communities and a brighter future for all.
Examples of our hands-on programming include:
- Introduction to Gardening
- Plant Identification
- Composting and Soil Science
- Seed Sowing and Germination
- Pollinators and Pollinator Gardens
- Ecosystems
- Honouring Indigenous Practices (such as the Three Sisters and Honourable Harvest)
- Garden Arts
