BGC Dovercourt is looking for a Research & Policy Intern!
BGC Dovercourt is a not-for-profit organization that provides after school, summer and March break programs for over 1,000 children and youth at two locations in Toronto’s west end. The mission of the Club is to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.
Start Date: August 2024
End Date: December 2024
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
Location: Dovercourt Clubhouse, 180 Westmoreland Ave
Hours: 35 hours, Monday – Friday
Job Type: Contract, In-person
As the Research & Policy Intern you will:
- Support the Executive Director by researching funding opportunities, writing grant applications and assistance with other fundraising events/campaigns.
- Be responsible, in conjunction with the HR, for:
o updating policies, procedures and practices in accordance with current legislation and needs of the organization;
o creating new policies, procedures and protocols in keeping with the growing needs/demands of the Club; - Analyze policy initiatives for their impacts on BGC Dovercourt
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholder
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong research, technical writing, interpersonal, communication, analytical and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of Federal, Provincial (Ontario) and Municipal (Toronto) legislation in related areas.
- Knowledge of best practices in required fields, such as human resources, fundraising, child and youth and the not for profit sector.
- Ability to multitask and efficiently perform administrative duties while managing shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with tact and discretion.
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of post-secondary education, Bachelor’s degree preferred, in Human Resources Management, Non-Profit Management and/or Public Administration. Related work experience may be substituted for education.
- A minimum of 2 years demonstrated experience providing administrative support to executive management staff or office management experience. Non-profit experience a plus.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Reference Check.
